⚓️ how to win a CryptoPunk
gm.
wake up ➡️ check NFTs ➡️ go to work ➡️ check NFTs constantly at work ➡️ sleep? ➡️ not yet, I have to check my NFTs.
a completely normal and totally healthy loop I’m stuck in lately.
maybe it’s cleanse time…
ALPHA ⚓️
imagine winning a CryptoPunk…couldn’t be me.
but one lucky person this weekend, @BonnieLass88, experienced just that as she entered a giveaway run by @dt_chain (owner of an alien CryptoPunk himself) in partnership with NFTiff.
the result was her winning an NFT valued at 6-figures *minimum*.
it’s crazy how true it is that one play can make it all back.
4 follows, a retweet, and tagging 3 accounts could in theory have paid your salary for the year and then some, but we’re all too nervous to clutter up that Twitter timeline.
remember the great words of Michael Scott…“you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take - Wayne Gretzky”.
(the bad news is this giveaway will trigger a new wave of fake ones and people tagging you to enter said fake giveaways. RIP your mentions)
BETA ⚓️
we found some new discourse this weekend…revolving around the idea of 0% royalties.
the discussions arose from the launch of SudoSwap, a platform that *removes* creator fees in order to give the buyer better prices. then, 8liens…a new NFT project…rose in the OpenSea rankings with 0% royalties of their own.
artists from around the NFT space found the idea of 0% royalties to be dismissive of their work and their reasons for getting into NFTs in the first place.
for many, the royalties that would be served out in perpetuity (theoretically) were a big reason they chose to go into NFTs as opposed to more traditional routes of publishing their art.
everyone from Beeple to Cobie had a take on the subject and it doesn’t seem like we’ve arrived at an answer yet (in fact, it may have just caused more arguing than anything).
my take? perhaps it’s too simplistic, but let people do what they want. if an artist wants creator royalties? go off fam! if someone else doesn’t want them? you do you boo.
this is Web3…we can’t control people to do anything. if we couldn’t don’t you think *all* derivative projects would be dead already?
DELTA ⚓️
it seemed inevitable but Bored Ape Yacht Club, the hottest project in all of NFTs finally reached 1 million followers on Twitter on Monday. to an NFT project, this is a huge milestone. for other brand Twitter accounts? this is peanuts. Burger King should be on watch though…because BAYC is hot on their tail for their next milestone at *2* million followers.
a shout-out to the new members of the Cool Cats Community Council. this is a pretty novel idea where prominent community members make up an advisory council for the Cool Cats team. there are two spots remaining, and it’s totally something I won’t be writing about tomorrow if that’s what you’re thinking…
