gm. what’s a ‘bagner’ you ask?

essentially, it’s a just typo of ‘banger’. that’s it.

however, some people found a typo so funny (they should read my newsletter more often in that case), that they’re already making sure to drive the joke into ground. there’s even a ‘bagner’ project on the way.

it really doesn’t take much to impress people in this space. but hey, that’s the way it is. we’re also buying a lot of ENS domains with numbers in them at the moment, sooooo...

ALPHA ⚓️

I mentioned yesterday that ENS is kind of having a moment.

in a market that is seeing a lot of red, ENS has seen some of its biggest sales to date…with porno.eth, 000.eth, and sam.eth each selling for over 100 ETH in the past month.

data courtesy of ENS.vision

not only that, but the 999 club (3-digit ENS domains, like 000.eth) now has a 30 ETH floor…passing some big-name projects in price floor like Moonbirds, Doodles, and Mutant Apes in the process.

how did we get here?

skeptics will say it’s all hype that’s sure to die down. me? I’m not so sure anymore.

we often point to the promise of Web3 and its unlimited potential. “imagine what the future can hold!” yet we rarely have the creativity to think bigger…so instead we constantly frame everything through the lens of Web2.

at least, I know that’s what I did with digited ENS domains. at first, I wondered (like the rest of you) why anyone would want a domain like 265.eth. numbers aren’t catchy, and you can’t exactly build a company around 3 digits (unless those digits are 420).

but just because numbered .com’s aren’t a thing, doesn’t mean that the 999 club won’t stick around.

even 999 club members know that the numbers don’t *actually* mean anything. they do understand though that the numbers are essentially their membership ID to one of the most exclusive clubs in the NFT space.

you see, in the traditional domain world, there isn’t much of a “culture” behind owning them. there are big .com holders for sure, but they don’t interact with each as much as you’d think. everyone is on their own digital island.

the 999 club is the opposite. they’re loud, they’re opinionated, and (most importantly) they’re collaborative. even better, they are now Ethereum-rich. which means their influence is sure to grow…and they’re brainstorming right now in a Discord that you probably didn’t even know existed.

fading them is fading the potential of Web3 itself. I’d do it at your own risk. if you keep thinking like a Web2 person and you’ll be sure to be left behind in Web3. adapt or die!

BETA ⚓️

we wouldn’t be degens if we didn’t have “derivatives” of the 999 club.

it started with people minting nation’s flags followed by 3 digits and it’s quickly taken on new life with all the other hundreds of emojis we have at our disposal.

as I just mentioned, the true value of digited ENS domains is the community behind them. so unless something like 🐧082.eth gets someone with actual juice behind them (to drive the community forward), these are all likely a waste of money.

truly amazing that there are 3-digit ENS domain “derivatives” now where you just put an emoji in front of 3 numbers lol

I’ve been wrong before (thousands of times, in fact), and the NFT space continues to befuddle me with some of their decisions. so maybe the ENS-whale whale (from above) is *actually* early.

more likely, I assume they just wasted a few hundred dollars to register a domain that they will simply let drop in one year once we stop FOMO’ing the 999 club.

DELTA ⚓️

here are some other big ENS sales for the past few days. it’s really heating up!

  • bagner.eth sold for 2.5 ETH last night. you must not only adapt in the NFT space, but you must also do so extremely quickly.

  • games.eth for 80 ETH actually feels like a steal, especially with the Otherside testing and other NFT games on the way. more on that tomorrow…
