⚓️ RTFKT AR hoodies
gm.
everyone keeps telling you to go outside and “touch grass”. but have you ever gone out to “do karaoke”?
in my opinion, it’s much more cathartic to belt out the lyrics to “I’m Not Okay” by My Chemical Romance when the market is down than to see some leaves outside (NFA).
unrelated and completely not because I went too hard at karaoke on Saturday, I’m on the struggle bus today.
ALPHA ⚓️
RTFKT (aka the Nike NFT) gave their holders some AR hoodies on Friday.
what does that mean? well, your Clone could use this hoodie in the metaverse, but more importantly, the token came with a free IRL hoodie to go along with your digital one.
this had everyone ready to become Nike flippers on eBay, and a huge wave of degen traffic quickly sent the “forging” website into maintenance mode.
this allowed some to go through a rite of passage in the NFT space…learning how to mint directly from the Etherscan contract.
this allowed some to go through a rite of passage in the NFT space…learning how to mint directly from the Etherscan contract.
minting straight from the contract was one of the first scary things I did in NFTs. in fact, I learned how to do it from a thread by the much-maligned @ColeThereum (of Pudgy Penguins fame).
I still consider this his most important and lasting NFT contribution; I refer to it often (it was my first Twitter bookmark in fact).
it’s a skill that I encourage everyone to try at least once in their degen journey. though daunting at first, it will get you comfortable with Etherscan and help you better understand what’s going on behind the scenes when you click ‘mint’ on a website.
and it’s especially valuable since it seems like bad drops will forever be an issue in the NFT world.
BETA ⚓️
I may have jinxed it Friday when I said Kevin Rose can do no wrong in the eyes of many.
that’s because after an (odd) Oddities reveal and word that Moonbirds “nesters” would only be receiving a fanny pack, pins, and some socks for holding their birb, people decided it was finally time to turn on Proof.
for those unaware, Moonbirds can be staked for future rewards (called “nesting” in the Proof universe). this means they are locked in via contract…and they can’t be sold or swapped during that time.
nesters were therefore hoping their loyalty for staking would be rewarded…with more than just some free merch.
free stuff? how dare you, Kevin Rose.
this proves that no project is above FUD; in fact, it’s an inevitability at this point.
we’ve seen all the biggest projects out there - Yuga to Cool Cats to Doodles to now Proof/Moonbirds - all get the ire of Twitter at one point or another.
we’re constantly asked to zoom out. will we do the same for NFT projects whose stories are *far* from being over? will “stake-gate” for Proof/Moonbirds look like only a bump in the road years from now? I imagine it will. it’s too big to fail. but not too big to be FUD.
there are only 3 certainties in life…death, taxes, and your favorite project getting FUD’ed.

Chipotle has launched chipotlebuythedip.xyz…a little web game targeted directly at us degens. with it, you can win some Chiptole prizes before you’re their exit liquidity…
still manifesting a Twitter follow from Alexis Ohanian this year! he is spot on with this tweet from Sunday. also, he’s very handsome, very smart, and I love Moonbrids despite what I wrote above (a little flattery sometimes goes a long way).
