⚓️ Starbucks Web3 rewards update
I *always* have trouble coming up with good subject lines for my newsletter, so today, I left it to AI to create one for me.
I’ve been hearing a lot about AI recently with Dalle 2, so I decided to give the robots a chance. and the result was…underwhelming to say the least.
but hey, what can I say…it’s probably *still* better than anything I could come up with (though to be fair, the bar was very, very low).

I wrote recently about Starbucks and its plan to release a Web3 rewards program by the end of 2022. and now they’ve disclosed some of the details on *how* exactly they plan on implementing it into their existing mobile app.
for those that don’t know (because they are financially savvy and make all their coffee at home), Starbucks has low-key revolutionized the mobile app order over the past few years.
their customers - more than ever - are addicted to the Starbucks app, not only because they’ve made the ordering experience a breeze, but also because they’ve gamified coffee-buying better than anyone.
so now they’re taking all that innovation and integrating NFTs into the app…which *should* take everything to the next level.
make no mistake…Starbucks will elevate the profile of NFTs overnight once their Web3 plans are implemented into the app. it may *sound* a little dumb on paper, but getting rewarded with ‘digital collectibles’ through the Starbucks app is a natural extension of the program. better yet, it’s just the kind of ‘mass adoption’ that we’re all looking for.
remember how NBA Top Shot brought a massive amount of people into the space? Starbucks could be that but with a triple shot of espresso.
I want to temper my expectations, but how could you not be excited about a rewards program that could instantly onboard millions of NFTs noobs into the space?
given that scope, however, I find it highly unlikely that Starbucks uses Ethereum as their cryptocurrency of choice. instead, I imagine they implement a much more gas-friendly solution…considering all the order volume Starbucks does per day (4 million coffees per day if you were wondering).
with the Moonbirds announcement of CC0 rights last week, the Proof machine…once well-oiled and chugging along splendidly…is now puttering out on the side of a desert highway.
the story has shifted in recent days…and now the decision, which at first was made with the most Web3 of intentions, has instead become a betrayal of the community. with all the criticism floating out there, the price floor has *slightly* bottomed out for Moonbirds.
despite all this, I think Proof/Moonbirds has used its position and momentum over the past few months to make some great hires (NFTStatistics being among them). the pit crew that will be executing Proof’s vision moving forward still looks strong and I expect them to do everything at a high level.
but now at its helm, Proof has a driver that many may have lost faith in. can Kevin Rose redeem himself to the community and get everything back on course?
(and thus ends my car analogies for the day…)
MagicEden continues its Cinderella run in Marketplace Madness. for a while now, MagicEden has been the best Solana NFT marketplace and corporate Twitter presence (IYKYK). however, recently they’ve made some big plays by adding ETH NFT integration…and now an exclusive Bored Ape marketplace powered by ApeCoin. I didn’t have “MagicEden becomes the best marketplace for NFTs” on my 2022 bingo card, yet here we are.
sometimes Thanos-style, you just gotta do it yourself. after all the talk of using your IP, it’s nice to see some fellow Cool Cats who plan on doing exactly that. The Package is a children’s book (that I will be picking up for my daughter once it’s out) and is a reminder for us all to use all that IP to create something!
