⚓️ zuck's mid-o-verse
gm.
remember when I said I would get this newsletter out before lunch today? I meant dinner.
OK, I actually meant midnight. I promise I’ll do better tomorrow (maybe).
ALPHA ⚓️
Arbitrum, an L2 with big aspirations, announced yesterday that they would be hiring Andrew Saunders from Amazon as their *first* CMO.
it’s big news for DeFi but *could* also be big news for NFTs…as there had already been some groundswell with Arbitrum NFTs this year. remember Smol Brains?
as L2s and other coins continue to scale, I don’t see the downside in their marketing department funding the production of NFTs on them. to me, it seems like a smol-brainer…sorry, a no-brainer*
Tezos was paying artists to mint their art not even a year ago, and that was a big reason I even found out about Tezos in the first place.
it’s a smart marketing strategy to get the “noobs” familiar with your token.
that’s because it’s much easier to understand a picture than a coin; NFTs are a gateway to De-Fi.
what would be even smarter, is if one of these other chains try to poach *existing*, but less successful projects from Ethereum.
“having trouble gaining traction after reaching an ATH? why not be the big fish in a little pond and dominate another ecosystem? ditch Ethereum and come to Whatever Coin.” - my sales pitch to literally any project not named Bored Ape Yacht Club.
BETA ⚓️
Mark Zuckerberg and ‘Meta’ (let’s just call it Facebook), announced they were opening their metaverse, ‘Horizon Worlds’ (let’s just call it crap) in both France and Spain yesterday.
the teaser post from Zuck’s Facebook shows how Meta might not make it after all.
after a tough year for their stock price, the company’s big bet on the metaverse has been met with a collective dud from just about everyone. outsiders look at Meta’s metaverse as a dumb, useless overreach. insiders (like all of us) see it as a shameless money-grab and a knockoff of the *true* decentralized metaverse we hope to build.
even worse, the graphics of Horizon Worlds look like Nintendo Miis with less personality. the world being built is blander than an unseasoned piece of chicken. it’s so bad that we can’t even call it the “mid-o-verse”.
that being said, I’m still *slightly* rooting for Meta. if they fail with their metaverse, odds are that stops a lot of outside money from flowing into developing other metaverses projects. we’re reluctantly rooting for you, Zuck.
DELTA ⚓️
but this metaverse hero…now this is the overlord the metaverse *really* needs: Gordon Ramsay. your favorite bully/chef is coming to the Sandbox and I expect him to spice up that sorry, flavorless chicken Meta cooked.
I bought my first $50 shirt just now. The Hundreds x Cool Cats teamed up for a merch drop and I had to partake (think of it as a little early birthday gift to myself). I remember my college roommate was obsessed with The Hundreds back in the day. shout out to Steven wherever you are. I hope you got in on this drop too.
