⚓️ Apple allows NFTs...for a price
I’ve been giving the news a lot lately here on BivNFT…but I haven’t been giving many actual takes and predictions.
so today, I’m serving up some hot takes…ones that you can hold over me when they’re inevitably wrong.
gotta to give the people what they want.
Apple keeps 30% fee from NFTs in their App Store
wake up, babe. new Apple terms and conditions dropped…
let’s start with the good news…NFTs are allowed to be bought in apps! this means apps will be allowed to mint, list, and transfer NFTs.
(this sounds like it’ll be good for the OpenSea app which is currently useless).
but now the bad news…NFTs will not allow you to “unlock” any functionality within that app. so there will be no tokengating on iOS.
(that feels like a huge step back in what could have beeen awesome utility for NFT projects)
oh, did I forget to mention that Apple will still be taking 30% of the purchases from your NFT transactions and app creators?
check that box and welcome your new overlords to the NFT space.
What’s Next for Reddit and Digital Collectibles?
with Reddit also *finally* in on NFTs, it’s time to theorize what could be the next big pump for us.
I realize this is a fruitless endeavor, but it wouldn’t be the first time that Reddit started a trend. remember r/WallStreetBets and Gamestop?
so it’s not crazy to think their communities are coming together right now and putting their big (dumb) heads together to orchestrate the next pump.
and Wab is on to something here…it’s *probably* going to be ENS.
first, it’ll be ENS because of its simplicity. blockchain domains are easy to explain as it has an obvious corollary…traditional domain names like .com’s.
however, it can also be sold as a sort of Web3 “gamertag” for Reddit users.
the ability for a single ENS domain to represent you across Web3 dapps and platforms makes it imperative that you (at least) snag your “username”.
but if you want to speculate and maybe make some ETH? buy short brandable names that could easily be someone’s gamer handle or social media username right now…and simply wait for Reddit to “discover” ENS.
Reddit Avatars Blow By Other NFTs
the first rule of trading NFTs? don’t buy when influencers are talking about it. by then you’re already too late…
Reddit avatars will certainly have their time in the sun…but there’s no need to jump in *right now* just because everyone else is doing it.
wait it out, be patient, and let them flood the market with all kinds of digital avatars. did Top Shot teach you nothing?
Steve Aoki Gets It
“stop treating your followers like they’re your fan club and instead start treating them like your social circle.”
I’m paraphrasing Steve Aoki here, but it’s important to remember that the *quality* of your connections in Web3 is what matters here.
you can yell in Spaces and get a few hundred followers in an hour, but we all should instead focus on long-term objectives and organic growth.
if being in the NFT space has taught us anything so far is that pump and dumps don’t work.
