seems kinda fungible
GM. Or should I say…gm?
on twitter, I am strictly a lowercase guy. I feel it makes me seem more casual and chill (I do rock a “cool cat” profile picture after all).
my newsletter (until now) has taken the more professional approach. though perhaps my sign-off, “Best wishes, BivNFT” was a little too much.
however, if i’m going to be doing these every day, I suppose I have to do what is comfortable. spell check and auto-correct be damned. let’s get informal in this biatch; we’re going lowercase.
ALPHA
influencer (for lack of a better name) @0x_fxnction had his wallet compromised a few weeks back. being well connected in the space, he was able to recruit some of the top minds to help him track everything down.
enter @zackbxt and what is as close to a spy movie as NFTs get. I recommend reading the thread for the full story and to watch the drama unfold.
I imagine that charges will come of this (if the culprit’s grifting resume really is this extensive).
we constantly see cases where someone has their NFTs stolen, and the only recourse they have is typically just to have OpenSea lock the NFT from being traded. well here, there were some actual answers, instead of having to throw your hands up and accept that your NFTs are gone.
if there’s anything to take from this (other than the cool story) is that crypto “forensics” is going to be big business in a few years time…think ‘catch me if you can’ but with crypto. I imagine that the FBI and the IRS (along with other major crypto companies) will be hiring the best and brightest in the space to help with theft.
if you’re looking to get a skill, maybe learn how to do some sleuthing like this.
BETA
Coinbase NFT…are we going to talk about it?
what was supposed to be a legitimate Opensea competitor has dropped onto the scene with more of a whimper than a howl.
(even bootstrapped LooksRare appears to be eating its lunch right now)
they are still trying to make it work in beta (which opened to everyone today), but the dream of having them onboard a lot to the NFT space is not looking good.
I still think their philosophy is still sound…they built a marketplace that looks like Instagram in hopes that would get the normies interested. the comment section is obviously laughable, but conceptually it all makes sense.
ultimately, the expectations were just too high. we’re left with a product that is polished with no substance. while Coinbase cleans everything up, NFT diehards will only become more entrenched in the current marketplaces.
another thing that was an oversight…there was no initiative (seemingly) to onboard whales and well-known users to the platform. if you’re going the Instagram route, you need “influencers” to shill it. go get some big names to show off their wallets on Coinbase NFT! I’m not going to do the marketing for you…
the worst case scenario is that after a few more months, Coinbase decides to kill the marketplace. it would just be a line-item loss for them. their stock would likely plummet for a a few days, but ultimately, it would go the way of Apple’s Homepod or Amazon’s Fire Phones (in that they’d be big failures that we as a society forgot even happened).
better luck next time, corporate overlords.
DELTA
Gunna wore a ledger to the Met Gala. I had not even anticipated the idea that Ledger could be a flex like this.
it got me thinking…what else in the crypto/NFT world will be an IRL flex in the future?
we’ve already seen the trend of people putting Apes and other NFTs as the background on their Apple Watches. could we see a custom chain of someone’s Ape perhaps?
Custom items that showcase a specific NFT is already gaining popularity too. Malik Beasley and LaMelo Ball have worn shoes in game showing off their Gutter Cats. Deadfellaz have their own snowboards where you can put your specific token on it.
I know I have already made custom stickers of my NFTs to put up around town (don’t snitch). imagine what someone with actual money could do with their NFTs…
we’re only at the tip of the iceberg. crypto flexing will be mainstream in a few years now that athletes, musicians and celebrities are all on board. and NFTs will lead the way.
