⚓️ otherside beta testing
gm.
do you hear that? it’s people starting to talk about NFTs again! after NFT NYC, we are starting to hear some noise from the haters and the interested once more.
either that or the voices in my head have returned…
ALPHA ⚓️
yesterday, for National Onion Day (yes), Outback Steakhouse released their first NFT collection.
with just over 8K onions on the Ethereum blockchain, my NFT addiction left me no choice but to buy one (it’s rare too because he’s a full bloomin’ onion as opposed to the floor onions which are raw).
I truly have a sickness, but at least I get a free bloomin’ onion with my next visit to Outback (not kidding).

as far as corporate NFTs go though, it’s not the worst thing I’ve ever seen. sure, the “art” is mid, but at least it was a *free mint* and the minting process didn’t seem to be a disaster. go outback devs!
this is not the first food chain to release NFTs (and it certainly won’t be the last). Taco Bell did in March 2021 and Burger King had ‘the keep it real meals’ NFT in September of 2021.

not only that, but at NFT NYC, we saw some aspiring food chains tying their branding to NFTs too…with pop-ups and food trucks overtaking some of the biggest events of the week.
Bored & Hungry, who famously have a physical location in Long Beach, California, rolled through NYC to serve up burgers at ApeFest.
GoblinTown had what some described as a ‘genuinely good burger’ distributed to those in line for their event (the sauces fwiw were in made partnership with Lee Kum Kee…the collabs in this space will never cease to amaze me).
so as for the future of food x NFTs? I have absolutely no idea what it holds; I just wanted to shine a light on the synergies, because it does seem like there is *something* here.
would I be surprised if McDonald’s and Bored Apes partnered in some way like they did with Travis Scott and J Balvin? not at all. would I be shocked if Bored and Hungry became a legitimate chain across America through ghost kitchens? of course not.
if MrBeast can have a burger chain, so too can the Bored Apes.
BETA ⚓️
the reason I’m putting this in the Beta section of today’s newsletter is not that I hate it, but because “beta” testing is coming to the Otherside.
hehe.
for those that may have forgotten, Yuga Labs dropped the land to their metaverse in May and since then we’ve only seen a few teasers. otherwise, we’ve been kept (mostly) in the dark trying on how the land sale for Otherside will tie to the larger game being built by Animoca Brands.

it sounds like in July we may finally get to see what’s happening in the Otherside.
it’s a relatively quick turnaround. if there is truly a working game ready for testing by July, it’s not unrealistic to say we’ll see a release by EOY. from the gameplay we’ve seen, it does seem like they’re pretty far along and the second wave of land sales (coming soon) will likely indicate that they’re close to a fully functional game.
maybe my prediction that 2022 is the year for NFT gaming isn’t dead after all…
DELTA ⚓️
I told you so.
genius.
great thread from @NFT_God (who has been shouted out before in this newsletter). I hope to teach myself how to use Dune Analytics and start including some data visuals for you in this newsletter moving forward!
